Reigning Lucas champ Frank Manzo from Morganville NJ and Karen Stalba from Hammonton NJ won Top Alcohol Funny Car and Alcohol Dragster respectively at the Lucas Oil Divisional in Epping New Hampshire.
Manzo beat the local Follow A Dream team from the Boston area with second generation driver Todd Veney behind the wheel in the finals running a 5.608 259.91 MPH to Veney’s close 5.711.
Manzo’s Al Anabi Monte Carlo was the class of the field as his final round ET was good enough for Low ET and his earlier 260.11 MPH was Top Speed and a New England Dragway record.
Stalba, who qualified in the #3 spot with a 5.483 used consistency throughout eliminations beating former Division One champ John Finke and Jackie Fricke in earlier rounds to face recent Lebanon Valley winner, Dan Page in the finals.
Page, driving the A/FD of Arthur Gallant, had not been able to match his 5.530 run from Friday being stuck in the mid 5.60s but luck was on his side earlier as he defeated the low ET car of Dan Mercier in the semis on a hole shot and in the first round got by a sleeping Richard Bourke with an unbelievable 5.677 to 5.492. Bourke’s RT was a terrible 0.270.
To Bourke’s defense, it was his first time behind the wheel of the blown Cantrell Brothers car out of Wilmington DE. A team that is having nothing but driver problems since 2010 NED Champ Darren Nicholson left the team.
Also visiting the winner’s circle at Epping was former World Champ Sal Biondo driving Vinnie Barone’s ’07 I/AA Cavalier.
Biondo defeated the PS/TA Chevy truck of Chip Ippolito in the finals as Ippolito left too soon giving Biondo the win.
The Pro Stock Snowmobile finals had 2010 Champ Tiina Duncanson up against first time finalist Kristin Stanley and it was Stanley upending the low ET sled of Duncanson with a 8.421 to Tiina’s slower 8.474. Tiina had set lot ET with a 8.405 during the heat of the day but could not run the time when she needed it.
